Noimy has a real big crush on him. Although quite unbecoming of any decent girl to do, Noimy makes her move on Macky once inside the movie house; and also quite an unusual reaction of a macho man on such advances from a woman, Macky flinches away like a snake and in order to cool down the surging Noimy, he cautioned her that Puresa might get mad if she sees what she doing.  Although far from the truth, he told her that Puresa is his girlfriend. Sure enough, it stuns Noimy who storms out leaving them behind. He then admits to Puresa, who was surprised at Noimy’s sudden exit and completely unaware about what had been going on, that he is gay and that he had to make Noimy to believe that they are on to stop her from running after him. Puresa also gets to confide to Macky that she has a secret love, Rommel, also one of their classmates, who gave her a necklace one time behind his girlfriend’s back, Lyn, Like Rommel, Lyn is also a classmate.

Lyn senses Rommel’s waning interest in her. She thought she was wrong when he finds a receipt for a necklace in his pocket. She thought it was for her and she waits in suspense for Rommel to put it around her neck. It never happened. She was furious, confronted him and finally broke up him for good. Lyn, being devastated, soon falls and finds comfort in the arms of Sir. Francis.

Macky and Puresa, for a while, play sweethearts to discourage Noimy on Macky. Puresa soon asks Macky to stop the game and set her free to seek her real love. They fake a lover’s painful break-up and Macky took the opportunity to get the attention and sympathy of his crush, Sir Francis. It turns out to be a heartbreaker for Macky for he learns that Sir Francis is already hooked up on Lyn.

Puresa visits Rommel in his house supposedly to study, but something deeper than a simple classroom lesson happens.  She then felt Rommel’s guilt and doubt about what he did.  And so did she.

Macky commiserates with Noimy in her heartaches by downing several bottles of beer together.  They were both overwhelmed by the frenzy moment, Noimy took the opportunity to win over and seduce Macky.  She failed and got the shock of her life when Macky told her that he is gay.  They decide to stay as friends.

Puresa and Lyn both got pregnant. Rommel refused to acknowledge being the father either of the two babies.  The two girls go to an abortionist thinking that it is the only solution to their problem. Lyn pushes through with the gory abortion while Puresa chickened out and decided to keep the baby.

Rommel’s parents found out about Lyn’s pregnancy and decided to send him to the States to keep him away from her.  Rommel planned to elope with Lyn but soon found out what she did with the baby.  He was so disgusted with what she did that he left her for good.

Lyn felt so guilty and depressed, having nowhere to go and no one to confide to, decided to take her own life.

RIZAL BEHIND BARS

RIZAL BEHIND BARS

Synopsis

To many people, Jose Rizal’s life seems to be an open book; something that everyone must know about for he is our national hero. “RIZAL BEHIND BARS” shows Rizal’s last few moments in jail, as a human being, his thoughts and emotional sufferings, flashbacks of events, places, people and things of the past that kept haunting him in his solitude.

Memories of his mother’s teachings and her sufferings in the hands of the Spaniards spark a hidden hatred for the foreigners within him. The recognition of his work arises, but his being an Indio, seem to hinder his progress.  His brother Paciano convinced him to study abroad for his sake. He follows his brother leaving his love, Leonor Rivera behind. Leonor who is wed to somebody else and eventually dies in sorrow. One broken promise after another haunts him including those he made to those women of his life, like Carmen, Tottie, Osei San, & Nellie, whom he had all left behind.

His fire of ambition to give pride to his country was rekindled and set ablaze by Juan Luna’s winning grand prize for his painting, the Spoliarium. This tremendously inspires Rizal to write  “Noli Me Tangere” & “El Filibusterismo” which were despised and condemned by the Church. Rizal’s writingz ignited a revolution against the Spaniards. And for that reason, he was imprisoned. During his last hours BEHIND BARS, he marries Josephine Bracken; and  before the firing squad riddles Rizal’s frail body with the deadly lead, he makes peace with God and wished that God would make him see and realize if all he did was really worth it.

Alas, a  volley of shots soon tore through the air.  He was suddenly taken into another dimension in time (our present times) and he  witnesses in great dismay the demonstrations, rallies and the wanton waste of lives of youth who are still fighting for real freedom  and dying for the very same illnesses he abhorred of the government and  society.

HESUS NA BUHAY

HESUS NA BUHAY

Synopsis

The story begins with Adam & eves’ original sin, followed by the killing of Abel by his brother Cain.  This was the birth of other sins committed by man, like idolatry, adultery, lust, theft and more.  Man was on the brink of destruction, oppressed by his own doing.  They await their savior. Then the prophecy was fulfilled with the birth of Jesus.  He taught God’s word, cured the sick people and did miracles.  He became famous and was coveted by the Pharisees. They feared that his teaching could cause an uprising against them so they plotted to kill Jesus.

Somewhere in Jesus’ journeys, he met a woman named Mary Magdalene. She offered to wash his hair, hands and feet with an expensive perfume. Judas, one of Jesus’ disciples found this insulting. In one of their assemblies, Jesus washed the feet of his disciples as an example to what he wants them to do when he is gone.  He said that they should serve others humbly.  Soon after they had supper with him.  He announced that he would be fasting until His father’s will is done. He also announced that Judas would despise him and Peter would deny him. And that evening, Jesus prayed as his disciples slept.  He wept and asked for his father to take away this cup of poison from him. But in the end he accepts His Father’s will.  Soldiers with the help of Judas found and arrested Jesus.

Peter was puzzled and crushed with his teacher’s arrest. Some people recognized him and began to taunt him. He denied Jesus three times as was said earlier. After several confrontations, the trial by Pilate set Jesus’ fate to be crucified.  Judas learned about this and was bothered terribly that he chose to kill himself. Jesus was crucified and died.  The disciples were terrified and hid themselves. On the third day, Mary Magdalene came and offered her perfume to Jesus. But she found that the tomb was empty and wept. But the rises Jesus showed himself and spoke to her.

Jesus showed himself to his disciples and they were so happy. Thomas who was not there did not believe them and said that he had to touch Jesus’ wounds before he believes.  So Jesus came to him and granted his request. He fell on his knees and wept. Jesus called upon Peter and asked him to feed his sheep, remind them of all he has taught them.  And with this Jesus ascended into heaven.  “JESUS IS ALIVE IN ALL OF US”

OUR LADY OF CANDELARIA

THE TRUE STORY BEHIND THE IMAGE

In 1400, more that a hundred years before the Spanish and Christianity arrived
in the Canary Islands the people on the island called Tenerife discovered a
statue. It was found in a cave by two shepherds who had gone into the cave with
their sheep to get out of the rain. They had never seen a statue before and
thought it was alive. They went to their chief. He told them it must be a
strange god and he commanded the shepherds to bring the statue to him. They
honored the statue as best they could. A few nights later, they were surprised
to hear beautiful music and see strange beings, all alight, setting candles around
the statue. The people had never seen candles as they had no bees and no wax on
the island. The people built a special house for the statue and for nearly half a
century there were lights, music and lovely fragrances surrounding it. The people
brought offerings of fruit and flowers and noticed that the beings-made-of-light
kept the candles burning. Then one day, a poor ship-wrecked Spanish sailor drifted
to the island. He knew the statue was of Our Lady—but he couldn’t speak the people’s
language so he couldn’t tell them.

Then in 1520 a native boy was out in a small boat and was captured by Spaniards who
took him back to Spain. While there he became a Catholic. After a few years he
returned to his island. He knelt before the statue, made the sign of the cross and
told the people about Christianity. When missionaries came the people were
prepared to receive them. In time the statue was called Our Lady of Candelaria—
because of the candles. Devotion to this image was brought by the Spanish to South
America and the Philippines. When Brother John and I were in Bogotá, Colombia the
neighborhood where we stayed in the old city was called Candelaria. Great shrines to
Our Lady of Candelaria were built in the Spanish colonies. Many miraculous healings
occurred at them. Some have thought that the statue could have been washed a shore—
from a Spanish ship. But it was found standing on a flat rock inside a cave at some
distance from the high tide mark. There were no scars on the statue to indicate that
it had come in by the rock-strewn coast, battered by waves. Also, the heavy reddish
wood, has never been identified. It gives no indication it was ever in salt water.
The statue is three and a half feet high. The eyes seem to follow the beholder.
The hair is uncovered and golden. Our Lady holds her infant Son and He holds a golden
bird in his hands. I n Our Blessed Mother’s left hand she holds a candle.

Even today candles and wicks of strange materials—not found on the island—are found
near the statue. The people say they hear the Angels come to sing for Our Lady on the
feast of her Assumption.
